Facilities
General Nuclear Medicine
General Nuclear Medicine section consists of trained Nuclear Physicians and technicians. It is equipped with two SPECT Gamma cameras and thyroid uptake system. Computerized diagnostic section covers all nuclear investigations for thyroid, bone, brain, lung, liver and hepatobiliary system. Renal scintigraphy is also routinely carried out. Quantitative tests include thyroid uptake, GFR, relative renal function, gall bladder ejection fraction etc. Whole body MDP bone scan, I131 whole body scan and SPECT studies (e.g. bone, liver etc) are also performed. Highly Sophisticated tests such as parathyroid imaging, mammoscintigraphy, brain Perfusion Study, Meckel's diverticulum study, labeled RBC study, salivary gland scan, venography (first pass as well as blood pool), Lymphoscintigraphy and esophageal motility studies etc are also conducted at the institute.
Therapeutic portion of Nuclear Medicine covers treatment of patients with
radioactive Iodine & P32. Patients suffering from Grave's disease, toxic MNG and toxic hot nodule are treated on outdoor basis. Those suffering from differentiated carcinoma of thyroid seek treatment for thyroid ablation. 32P therapy is given for palliative treatment of bone pains due to metastatic bone disease and polycythemia vera. Two isolation rooms, equipped with four beds, are available for the patients, who need hospitalization.
Nuclear Cardiology
Nuclear Cardiology section is equipped with two Power Jog Treadmill machines, ECG units and defibrillators.
Stress room contains all emergency medicines & instruments.
Stress whether, exersice related or pharmacological is supervised by experienced cardiologist from CCU of Allied Hospital.
Routinely performed cardiac tests at PINUM include SPECT myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, Gated SPECT myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, myocardium viability studies, stress and rest MUGA, first pass cardiac studies etc. For perfusion scintigraphy Tetrofosmin (Myoview), MIBI and TI201 (Thallium) are routinely used.
Immuno Assay
PINUM is the first institute to start Radioimmunoassay (RIA) services at Faisalabad. Immuno Assay Division is equipped with latest equipments. The staff is well experienced and the assay results are provided within a few days. Routinely performed tests include FT4, FT3, TSH, LH, FSH, progesterone, estrogen, prolactin, testosterone.
Cortisol, PSA-quantitative, AFP, CEA, Beta HCG, insulin and CA-125 are also available at the institute.
Colour Doppler & Echocardiography
PINUM is equipped with the latest color Doppler machine Toshiba Nemio 20 with 4 probes. The expert team in this section can perform virtually all kinds of sonographic examination including echocardiography, arterial and venous Doppler studies. A number of research projects related with this modality are in progress.
General Untrasonography
This section is equipped with (Hitachi-EUB 405) ultrasound machine. Abdominal, Thyroid, Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasonography is performed by experienced doctors. A Female sonologist is also available for women conscious of getting investigation done from female doctor
Radiology and Mammography
This section consists of 500 MA X-Ray machine (Toshiba) which is used to perform conventional X-Ray as well as IVP, Barium meal & follow through studies.
Mammography machine (Metaltronica) has also been installed for mammography.
A Breast Care Clinic has been established under supervision of a qualified lady doctor and consultant radiologist.
Pathology Laboratory
Pathology Lab. is well equipped with automated chemistry and hematology analyzers. Routine Clinical tests like blood & urine complete examination, blood sugar, urea, serum creatinine & uric acid, LFTs, lipid profile etc. are conducted. A Diabetic Clinic has also been established. The lab is being supervised by a consultant pathologist.
PCR Laboratory
Hepatitis B and C are spreading at an alarming rate all over the country especially in the region of Faisalabad. Keeping in view the needs of people, a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) lab has been established at PINUM. Latest sophisticated equipments have been installed and currently PCR for HBV and HCV have been started. PCR provides direct detection of virus as compared to other techniques that detects antibodies such as ELISA, RIBA and IRMA etc. Because PCR is very sensitive, this analysis is possible soon after infection, which can be from several days to several months before actual symptoms occur. The specificity of PCR based assays for infectious diseases is excellent (>98%)
Endoscopy
The latest Endoscopy system (Olympus) equipped with video aid is being utilized for endoscopy by gastroenterologist. Sclerotherapy for varices and biopsy of upper gastrointestinal tumors are also performed on weekly basis.
Medical Physics
Medical Physics and Safety Division comprises of qualified physicists who look after radiation protection, Radioactive Waste Management, Health Physics and quality Control of nuclear medicine equipments. Students from different universities conduct their research work in collaboration with this division.
Computers and Maintenance
This division is responsible for providing necessary repair/maintenance of equipments, computers and office building along with the installation of new equipments. Highly sophisticated equipments are being maintained by tiredless efforts of GSCD Personnel. Latest Computers with accessories have been provided to all the officers and their respective divisions. About 30 computers are connected through LAN to share the data. High speed DSL internet connection (256 Kb) is also provided with unlimited upload and download facility. The database of patients visiting PINUM has been developed for proper record keeping and research work.
