Introduction

The Scientific Information Division (SID), PINSTECH started its existence as a modest library of PINSTECH in 1966. It was upgraded into a full fledged division in 1984. SID is the central source of scientific and technical information not only for Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission but also for other scientific organizations and universities in the country and is responsible for the efficient acquisition, storage, retrieval and dissemination of Scientific & Technical information in support of the PAEC program. The total in-house collection of PINSTECH Library is shown in Table-1.

A view of PINSTECH library

Scientific Information Division has four major sections namely, Computerized Information Management, Books, Journals and Reports sections besides strong support of reprographic facilities including photocopying, microfiche reading, printing and duplicating etc. SID is also providing printing and bindery facilities to whole PAEC. A package scheme is available offering most of the above mentioned services to various establishments on subscription basis.

Services

• Monthly computer based Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) from International Nuclear Information System INIS tapes.

• Monthly SDI from new additions to library collection of reports, and tables of contents (TOCs) of international journals. 

• On-line searching from INIS, Technical Reports and TOCs databases.

• On-line searching from INIS, database on CD-ROM covering period 1976 and onwards. 

• Manual current awareness and retrospective searching.

• Training facilities for computerization of PAEC libraries.

• Provision of the above services to all PAEC establishments and universities in the country.
