Introduction
Nuclear Materials Division (NMD),
PINSTECH, was established in 1973, with the following objectives:
- To provide technical
assistance to other PAEC's projects on development, production and
characterization of materials
- To develop basic technical
know-how for design and installation of commercial/industrial plants and
their economical and smooth operation
- To train manpower in the
disciplines of engineering design and material characterization.
At present this Division is one
of the most prestigious technical Divisions of PINSTECH which has contributed
significantly to the development of PAEC's indigenization program. It has the
distinction of accomplishing several projects of strategic importance and has
played a key role in the efficient running of these projects by solving
scientific and engineering problems.
Manpower
NMD
possesses highly qualified, trained and skilled manpower comprising of 10
Ph.D's and 34 scientists and engineers with vast experience in the fields of
materials science and engineering.
Facilities
The Division has established
facilities and modern techniques for materials development and
characterization, which include:
- Sophisticated metallurgical
laboratories for developing alloys and superalloys for special applications
including high temperature application.
- Well-quipped mechanical testing
and metallography laboratories as a supporting facility for alloy development.
- High-tech computerized
laboratory for chemical characterization of materials and advanced alloys.
Computerized laboratory for phase/texture analysis and corrosion studies.
Facilities for stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and fatigue testing under
corrosive environment.
