Computer Division (CD) was established in January 1980 with an
aim to provide service and support to the researchers and scientists of PINSTECH in the
area of computer hardware and software. Although computer division is still providing
computer hardware and software services but it has gradually shifted its activities from
being only a service provider division to an important design and development division.
CD is composed of five major groups:

Computer Division performed the massive task of establishing a comprehensive computer network in PINSTECH covering an area of more than 1 Sq. km. Networking was started in mid 1998. At present there are more than 150 computers linked together using UTP, Fiber optics, Radio modems and dialup connections. Linux, Solaris and Windows NT servers are providing 128 kbps shared internet connectivity, email and ftp services.
Services & Support
PINSTECH has a very
heterogeneous computing environment. Hardware platforms being include of different brands
and types of PCs, SUN stations and dedicated systems. On the operating system side DOS,
Windows 9X, Windows NT, Solaris and Linux are being used. Complete service and support
for all of these platforms is provided by highly skilled and dedicated staff of computer
division.
