SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION
PINSTECH processes an excellent collection of scientific and technological literature. This treasure of books, scientific journals and technical reports is accessible to the local academicians and researchers, not only from PAEC but also for other scientific organizations and universities in the country Scientific information Division at PINSTECH has developed on efficient computer-based acquisition, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information system for this purpose.
PINSTECH library specializes for information in the field of nuclear and related sciences with a collection of about 35000 books, over 100,000 bound volumes of journals, and around 1.2 million non-conventional literature (technical reports, standards, patents, etc.) in the form of microfiche, microcard and hard copies, CD-ROMS, etc.
Current awareness service on topics of interest are provided on weekly and monthly basis. Glimpses from Arrivals, a compilation of references of popular articles on various topics of science and technology, is published on monthly basis.
Selective Dissemination of information (SDI) to registered users and retrospective searching facility is provided form INIS Database, in house database of TOC of journals and technical reports, and Current Content Database on world renowned journals. In addition, manual literature search and translation services are also arranged.
Reprographic services including Microfiche duplication and microfilming and a modest facility for printing and desktop publishing is also available.
Scientific Information Division, PINSTECH is the national centre for coordination of the activities of IAEA’s International Nuclear Information System (INIS) in Pakistan. Regular input of relevant literature in various fields of nuclear science and technology, originated in Pakistan is provided to the database maintained at Vienna.
The library facilities are available to other institutions on cost sharing/mutual exchange basis. As a part of PAEC’s program of Aid to Universities, library services to graduate and postgraduate students are free of cost.
