Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PlEAS)

An Institute Committed to Excellence in Higher Education

Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) congratulates Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) on its 14th anniversary of establishment. The commendable efforts made by COMSATS shall have a strong positive impact on the development of science and technology in Pakistan.

For the last four decades, PIEAS has consistently focused on one single objective, that is, to rigorously impart most modern knowledge to the nation's young engineers, doctors and scientists in areas of interest for national strategic organizations. The most stringent set of quality measures throughout the academic process at all levels is a feature of which PIEAS always takes pride in. PIEAS has been ranked as No 1 institution amongst the Engineering Universities of Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad.

Being a leading institution of scientific and engineering research, PIEAS trains highly competent scientists and engineers for employment in national strategic organizations. It offers PhD, MS/MPhil and BS degrees in diverse areas of medical, physical and engineering sciences. Some of these degree programs are unique in the sense that, in Pakistan, they are offered at PIEAS only. Selection for these programs is purely on merit basis. National strategic organizations offer attractive fellowships for MS programs at PIEAS. Students selected for the fellowship programs are currently paid a Fellowship of Rs. 10,000 per month with no tuition fee charges, free hostel, transportation and indoor medical treatment. Successful candidates are placed as Junior Engineer/ Junior Scientist/

Medical Officer in national strategic organizations.

The Institute has four engineering departments, namely, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear and Chemical & Materials and four applied sciences departments, namely, Computer & Information Sciences, Medical Sciences, Physics & Applied Mathematics and Communication & Management Sciences. With a handsome number of diverse and well-equipped experimental and computational laboratories, PIEAS features state-of-the art training and R&D facilities, 24 hours open computer centre, library, auditorium, student hostels, cafeteria, sports facilities and houses for faculty and staff. It is further augmenting state of the art educational and research facilities including Powder Metallurgy Lab, Bio-photonics Lab, Centre for Nanotechnology, Advanced Polymer Lab, Advanced Computational Reactor Engineering Lab and Video Conferencing Room for its students and faculty that would enhance its standing and contribution in the fields of advanced engineering and sciences. The Institute can boast of a widespread network of nearly 1,900 alumni-graduates who use their tertiary-level engineering and applied sciences education to not only become leaders in engineering, but also successful professionals in medicine, management and other related fields.

There are 130 full-time Faculty Members currently playing their roles towards building PIEAS. Moreover, there are 36 Adjunct Faculty Members who visit PIEAS to contribute in various programs. The majority of the faculty members have Ph.D. degrees from the reputed universities of USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan and Australia. The Ph.D. program at PIEAS has progressed very well over the last five years and the present number of Ph.D. students at PIEAS is 89.
