Research Projects



NORI is currently working on following Research Projects as per details below

1. IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY ASSURANCE OF BRACHYTHERAPY FOR FREQUENT 
    CANCERS IN ASIA PACIFIC REGION, IAEA/RCA PROJECT RAS/6/040 (2005-2008)


This project has three aspects:

 

  • Improvement of Brachytherapy and Teletherapy for frequent cancers in Asia pacific Region

  • Training of Radiotherapy Technicians for improved patient care

  • Regional capability for repair and maintenance of equipment in the field of Radiotherapy

Dr. Naseem Begum (IRNUM) is the National Project Coordinator. Dr. Rubina Ali (PMO), Mr. Shafiq-ul-Hassan (JS) and Mr. Muzaffar Khan (JE) of NORI are team Members. A preliminary workshop was held at Peshawar from 16-17 June 2006. A standardized Tumor Registry Forms are being maintained for every new patient registered for database preparation and analysis.

2. NEW BORN SCREENING PROGRAMME FOR NEONATAL HYPOTHYROIDISM, IAEA 
    PROJECT No. RAS/06/043 PHASE 11


IAEA has been supporting neonatal screening programmes to detect and prevent neonatal hypothyroidism, particularly in East Asia and South Asia. Mrs. Shahnaz Murtaza (DCS) is conducting this project in collaboration with MCH, PIMS.

3. OPEN-LABEL RANDOMIZED MULTICENTER TRIAL OF PAZOPANIB IN COMBINATION 
    WITH  LAPATINIB COMPARED TO LAPATINIB ALONE AS FIRST LINE THERAPY IN      
    SUBJECTS WITH LOCALLY ADVANCED, METASTATIC BREAST CANCER WITH ERB-2 
    FISH POSITIVE TUMOURS


This project has been started in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline for the effectiveness of the mentioned drug. Dr. Humera Mehmood (PMO) is the coordinator from NORI. The patients have been recruited and interim analysis has been done. The patients are receiving treatment and are being followed up.

4. EVALUATION OF THE BIOLOGICAL SAFETY AND CLINICAL EFFICACY OF  177 
    LU-EDTMP  FOR BONE PAIN PALLIATION IN METASTATIC PROSTATE  CANCER (PHASE 
    I/II CLINICAL TRIAL)


Dr. Ghazal Nadeem is chieft investigator of this project. She will be recruiting patients for this phase II study.

5. ALTERED FRACTIONATION & RADIOSENSITIZATION IN H & N CANCER
    RADIOTHERAPIES 15314 2008-2010


Dr Rubina Ali PMO is chief investigator of this project. Recruitment of patient for this project is underway.
