Instructions
All nuclear medical scans are not generally done in pregnant or lactating patients.
Please consult your prescribing doctor if the nuclear medicine scanning is urgently needed in pregnant patients. Lactating mothers have to withhold lactation for some period after the tests and should consult the doctors in the Nuclear Medicine Department before the scan.
Bone and Renal Scans
Cardiac Scan or Myocardial Perfusion Scan (MIBI / Thallium)

The patients should reconfirm their appointments a day before between 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Male patients must come with their chest shaved.
-
Bring all previous medical tests and x-ray reports.
-
Come empty stomach on the morning of the scan.

Bring a 20-G i/v canula (Vasocan)

Patients are requested to bring their breakfast containing egg, butter, and
milk
-
Cardiac scan is generally carried out in two parts. First part of the test is done on the first day (day of appointment) and the second part of the test is carried out on the next or some other day. Each part requires about 2½ to 3 hours in which the scanning time is about 35 minutes.

Diabetic patients may take light breakfast at 6:00 am and their dose of medicines for diabetes, and come for the scan at 09:00 am. They should bring breakfast having egg, butter and milk to be taken later.

After consulting your doctor/cardiologist, stop certain medicines if present in your prescription. These include
Beta blockers and Calcium channel blockers that are to be stopped at least 48 hours before the appointment and
Nitrates to be stopped 24 hours before the appointment. If, however, your doctor/cardiologist suggests that your cardiac scan should be done
without stopping these medicines then kindly keep on taking these medicines
as advised in your prescription

Come empty stomach on the day of your appointment.

Stop thyroid-related medication for appropriate time before the scheduled appointment.

Stop iodine containing medicine and food at least 4 weeks before the scheduled appointment.
-
Come prepared for possible admission in isolation for 3 to 4 days if needed.
-
Please avoid intimate contact with other family members for some days as advised by your physician.
