About
Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy Institute, Islamabad is located in the neighbourhood of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), it is providing medical services to the patients from allover the country as well as neighboring countries. Over the years it has blossomed into a center of excellence providing high quality Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy facilities to the patients coming from within the country and abroad.
NORI is equipped with state of the art equipment. It has fully established departments of Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy. These are backed by sophisticated services such as pathology laboratory, radioimmunoassay, diagnostic radiology, medical and health physics. An engineering department looks after and maintains the sophisticated equipment in the building.
Nuclear Medicine Department is furnished with a hot lab for administrating radioisotopes to the patients. Digital and SPECT gamma cameras having online computers and latest software enable to carry out SPECT imaging and conduct advanced dynamic computation such as blood flow and GFR. In addition, a large number of scans such as thyroid, parathyroid, liver, bone, brain, renal and HIDA scans are routinely performed in the nuclear medicine department.
Early detection and treatment is very crucial in the management of cancer patients. The Radiotherapy and Oncology department is equipped with most modern equipment like high energy Linear Accelerator with dual photon and multiple electron energies for treatment of wide variety of cancers. To accurately localize and treat various types of tumors, the department also has a treatment planning system.
The pathology section performs a number of tests including blood tests, biochemical tests, serological tests and other pathological tests. The laboratory caters to the need of both indoor and outdoor patients.
To detect hormones and tumor markers, sensitive and highly accurate tests are needed. A specialized laboratory using Radioimmunoassay and Immulite techniques has been established at NORI. A PCR lab at NORI enables us to perform sensitive tests for diseases like Hepatitis B and C, AIDS, etc.
Academic and Research activities are an important aspect of services rendered by the Institute. The Institute has trained doctors, engineers, physicists, scientists, nurses and clinicians. It has ongoing programs both for undergraduate trainee doctors and technicians. Students from both local and foreign countries have received training at NORI. In addition M Phil and PhD candidates regularly attend NORI for research work.
The International reputation of NORI is exemplified by the fact that WHO,UICC, IAEA and other international agencies keenly collaborate with NORI in the field of Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy. NORI has been recognized by CPSP as the accreditation center for FCPS-II training in Nuclear Medicine & Radiotherapy.
To keep abreast with the latest advances in science and technology, doctors, scientists and engineers from NORI are regularly sent abroad on training and to attend International conferences and workshops. Seminars and workshops are regularly held at NORI. Experts from Pakistan and abroad are invited to present lectures in these workshops. |
