Facilities

The major research facilities at NIFA include Cobalt-60 radiation source, rad-iation measuring equipment’s (gamma radiation counters, dosimeters, gamma survey meters, etc.), Neutron Moisture probes, Amino acid analyzer, N-15 anal-yzer, Infralyzer, Atomic absorption spec-trophotometer, Gas chromatograph, Near Infrared Spectrophotometer (NIRS), Flame photometer, UV spectrophotometers, refrigerated centrifuges, Autoclaves, Laminar flow benches, Soxtec, Fibertec, Striptec, Cooled incubators, Growth chambers and a number of large and medium scale machines for food processing and product development. There is a medium size warehouse for cold storage of fruits and vegetables. A well-equipped workshop comprising of Lathe work, wood work and glass blowing shop manned by highly skilled workers is available to support the fabrication and maintenance work in the institute. A net house and a glass house are also available for conducting experiments under natural and controlled conditions. A poultry shed, tissue culture lab and controlled atmosphere room are some other facilities available to conduct specified research. There is an air-conditioned library adorned with sizeable collection of books and research journals from various countries of the world. An experimental farm of 14 acres is available at the campus for conducting field trials in Mutation Breeding, Plant Protection and Soil Science. The institute has recently acquired 75 acres of land at Chashnupp site, Kundian, District Mianwali from PAEC foundation for multiplying seeds of crop varieties released by the institute.
