Training/Certification at NCNDT

According to the requirements of PAEC document on certification in NDT person has to attend a properly organized training in a particular NDT technique before taking a certification examination in that technique.  This training should cover the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of the technique. 

The syllabi of the courses are based on International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Document TECDOC=628.  The course is eminently staffed and well equipped for such training.

Level-1 Courses

These courses are offered, at present, in Radiographic testing (RI) Ultrasonic testing (UT),Surface Method testing (SMT) i.e Magnetic particle testing (MT) and Penetrant testing (PT), Eddy current testing (ET) and Leak testing (LT). These courses are offerred to personnel who have an academic qualification of F.Sc. (with mathematics) or three years diploma in related fields such as mechanical,electrical,instrumentation, welding etc., and higher qualification.  The courses are of three weeks duration and two to three courses are held per year.  At present the fee of each course is Rs. 12,000/- except for RT which is Rs. 15,000/- per participant.

Level-1 course in Visual testing (VT) is being planned.

Level-2 Courses

These courses are also offerred in all the five methods mentioned above, namely RT,UT,SM ( PT & MT) and ET.  These courses are offerred for personnel who have (i) F.Sc. (with methematics) and at least three years post level-1 experience in the particular NDT method or (ii) three years technical diploma in the fields mentioned earlier or B.Sc (with mathematics and physics), B.E or higher technical qualifications and three years practical experience in the relevant NDT method.  These courses are of about four weeks duration and at least one course in one of the NDT method is held per year.  The courses may be increased subject to demand.  At present the fee for each course is Rs. 18,000/- except RT which is Rs. 20,000/- per participant.

Level-3 Courses

The centre is also offerring Level-3 courses in Radiographic testing, Ultrasonic testing, Surface methods and Eddy current testing.  These courses are open to personnel having (i) a degree of B.Sc (with physics and mathematics) or three years technical diploma in the relevant field or higher technical qualfication, (ii) a Level-2 certificate in the relevant test method, (iii) five years post level-2 experience in the relevant test method.

A person having B.Sc (Engg) or M.Sc degree or higher qualfication and with a minimum of five years practical experience in the relevant technique may be admitted directly to the course.

The course is usually held once a year in one of the methods and is of about five weeks duration.  The course fee is Rs. 18,000/- per participant.
