Period from Year 2005 to 2006


1.   Teaching, Training and Collaboration

Teaching radiological physics and instrumentation to Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs) of attached Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex (ATHC), Abbottabad as well as practical training in Nuclear Medicine Department.

Technical trainings to PIEAS fellows, both in nuclear medicine and radiotherapy departments.

2.    Publications / Presentations/Events
 

  • Director INOR attended the first meeting of the “PAEC Nuclear Medicine Thyroid Group” on subject: Consensus Group on Thyroid Treatment Protocol, held at MINAR, Multan.
     

  • Mr. Amjad Hussain (Medical Physicist) attended cobalt teletherapy training at Bangkok

  • Dr. Asif Jielani (Nuclear Physician) and Mr. Wazir Muhammad (Medical Physicist) attended the first meeting of working group for IAEA TC project “PAK/06/019” at MINAR Multan

  • Dr. Asif Jielani (Nuclear Physician) attended IAEA RCA training course on “Radionuclide Treatment of Liver Cancer” at NORI, Islamabad

  • Mr. Amjad Hussain (Medical Physicist) and Dr. Saif Ur Rehman (Radiotherapist) attended the first meeting of working group for project IAEARCA/06/040 at IRNUM Peshawar

  • Mr. Qaisar Abbas Rizvi (Junior engineer) attended the second meeting of working group for project IAEARCA/06/040 at IRNUM Peshawar

  • Mr. Wazir Muhammad attended training on Linear Accelerator at Czech Republic

  • A scientific paper titled “Release Criteria from Hospitals of I-131 Thyrotoxicosis Therapy Patients in developing countries—Case Study” by Wazir Muhammad, Amjad Aziz Khan, Amjad Hussain has been published by the journal of Radiation Protection Dosimetry, Oxford University  (February 7, 2006)

  • Dr. Saif Ur Rehman attended training on Linear Accelerator at Czech Republic

  • Linear Accelerator has been installed, accepted and commissioned successfully and is operational now

 

3.    Research Project

  1. INOR is the counterpart institute for a joint project at MINAR Multan, conducted by IAEA, “To establish a Model QA & QC programme for Radiation Application in Medicine
     

  2. INOR is the counterpart institute of the project “PAEC Nuclear Medicine Thyroid Group” conducted by PAEC
     

  3. INOR is the counterpart institute for a joint project at IRNUM Peshawar, conducted by IAEA, titled “Improvement in QA Of Radiotherapy for Treatment of Frequent Cancers in Pakistan and Building & Improving the Regional Capability for Repair & Maintenance of Radiotherapy Equipment: IAEA/RCA/06/040
     

  4. M.S. Medical Physics Projects (PIEAS Fellows)
     

    1. Wedge factor dependence with depth and field size at nominal SAD & SSD setups
