Safety and Quality

Safety and quality are the most important considerations in the design and construction of CHASNUPP-1. Design of the plant is in accordance with the latest codes and standards applicable at the time verified through reviews by national and international experts. The quality was assured by a comprehensive QA programme developed and practiced by PAEC during all phases of the project. 

IAEA Experts Inspecting the Plant

Safety of the plant was further ensured by carrying out the pre-service inspection of important plant Equipment and buildings, also serving as bench mark for the later inspection at pre-determined intervals.

Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority played an important role in the assurance of safety. The regulatory authority carried out its own independent reviews and maintained surveillance during the phases of construction, equipment manufacturing, Equipment installation and commissioning of the plant. The authority controlled the implementation of the project at critical stages by issue of permits and licenses. The authority continues to regulate the operation of the plant by assuring quality of the operation and operation personnel.
